The Gloves Come Off - A Look at the Transformation of Death

Every thing is Energy. This seems to be the buzz statement of the decade. So I might as well continue that thought process. If we go with the thought that everything is energy, then we are just that; a big ball of energy moving from place to place. In this dimension we have a body to cloak this energy. I remember hearing someone explain it to a child like a hand in a glove. The energy (spirit) fills the glove up like the hand, but the hand (spirit/energy) is not the glove and the glove is not the hand (body). When it is time for the energy to move on it just simply pulls away from its shell (the glove) and moves on.

Today I was pondering the space that is left behind when a loved one transitions. I have witnessed this energy shift (diminishment and/or expansion) in my life and in the lives of friends and family members. The actual energy shift is almost visible. I am not talking about spirit leaving the body; I am talking about the energy transformation that takes place when a loved one passes. Let me try to explain what I am talking about.

When my sister slipped into a coma and her energy seemed to be halfway here and halfway somewhere else, it actually opened up an area around my mom. During the 5 years that she was comatose my mother's creativity was on steroids. As an artist she was always putzing around with something but during those years and the years after my sister's death she created an incredible amount of work, began selling her work in west coast shops and really came into her own. A space was opened. Yes she was using this space or creativity as a mode to cope but somehow as my sister's energy presence diminished my mother's increased. What I love is she did not seem to feel guilty about it. She felt no need to cover herself in a sackcloth and rub ashes on her head. She embraced her deep hurt and sadness and created beauty. Not that if she had chosen to mourn in a different way that it would have been bad or wrong, she just found expansion in her grief.

Sometimes the space becomes so vast that the loved one who is left behind gets swallowed up by the black hole of no energy which may have been created. Again I'm talking about an energetic space. I have watched loved ones who didn't know how to swim in this wide open ocean. They felt lost. Their life preserver was the sick parent, brother or spouse. Even though they were treading water and barely surviving while they witnessed the glove being pulled away from their loved one, they felt safer than being left alone with an energy gap. When this happens it is a tough swim to a new shore, but it is possible.

My thoughts today have me thinking that a shift in energy used correctly can bring about beautiful creations. The energy which left the glove has not dissipated it has just transformed. If we learn to use and interact with this energy in it's new form we may find expansion and growth. Here are a few more examples.

I have a niece who lost her best friend; her soul mate in the form of a grandfather less than a year ago. The time leading up to his loss and the months after I have watched and listened to HER deep transformation. Again as her grandfather's energy presence diminished her creativity and expansion of self has increased. What she has accomplished and what she will accomplish is utterly astonishing. My gut says that somehow the transformation of his energy by leaving his glove has somehow amplified her energy. Almost as if the two energies are now working together. Again this is just me musing but I can't help think I am on to something.

Soo I was thinking about others where I have watched this same transformation. Maybe not on the scale of my niece or mom but to some degree they are currently experiencing this shift. I hear time and time again, after the passing of _______ I just couldn't do things the same way. My perspectives and/or relationships have changed.

I watched another man who lost his 94 year old father. The physical, mental and emotional change in that man was astonishing. Again almost as if his energy changed or that a space had opened up around him. I'm not sure if others see/feel what I am but I find it amazing.

As I mentioned before some get lost. Some do not have the positive energy shift. In fact they become depleted as if the one who passed took away a part of their energy. Could that be possible or is that a mind's trick. We feel such loss to not have them physically with us that we perceive ourselves to be less.

I am one of those strange beings who does not grieve in a way usually thought of as normal in our current society. I find myself celebrating, and feeling even closer to the energy that has left the glove. My Father's body has been gone now for 10 years, I dearly loved him but I can truly say that I feel his energy closer and closer. I feel his council deeper and deeper each day or maybe his loss afforded me the so called permission to look within for council? I'm not sure but I have definitely grown to be a stronger and more insightful person with the loss of each one of my loved ones.

Grieving is so very individual. If you are struggling with the loss of a loved one I highly recommend that you seek professional or spiritual council. With help you may find that you are able to embrace the transformation of energy and use it to create something new for yourself.

I am not a grief counselor and I definitely do not have all of the answers. The loss of a loved one, especially in a tragic manner is to say the least, riveting. But if we could do as other cultures do and see it for what it truly is maybe just, maybe we can learn to take the sting out of the loss. Let's try to see it as an energy shift, a transformation and slipping out of the glove. Allow that energy to flow with yours and see what you are able to create. That energy has not left you, they continue to be near and as I have found they are willing to support your walk until the day you slip out of your cloak.
